Keynote Speaker: Luke Gibbons, professor of Media
Studies, Culture and Aesthetics, and Irish Cinema at
Dublin University. Professor Gibbons' interests
include art, literature, film, Irish studies, and
pedagogy.
Film Speaker: Jeffrey Chown, professor of
Communication at Northern Illinois University.
Professor Chown's interests include: film theory and
criticism, documentary, and screenwriting. He was
recently awarded the Studs Terkel Humanities Service
Award, sponsored by the Illinois Humanities Council
for his documentary "Barbed Wire Pioneers: Inventing a
Community."
Abstracts on any topic in film, language & literary
studies are welcome, including:
* British and American Literature (any period)
* Film Studies
* Ethnic and Cultural Studies
* Theory
* Science Fiction/Fantasy
* Genre Writing
* Rhetoric and Composition
* Linguistics
* Stylistics and Discourse Analysis
* Gender Studies
* Popular Culture
* Creative Writing
In addition, MCFLL 2000 welcomes abstracts submitted
as a potential panel. If you and your colleagues
share an interest in a topic, please submit it as a
panel. Please note that these submissions are to be
treated as a single unit, and all abstracts must be
submitted together.
Guidelines for Abstracts:
* one page (including a title, but excluding author's
name)
* cover page including: 1. paper title, 2. name and
address, 3. phone number and e-mail address, 4. school
affiliation
