 Call for Papers

ARIEL (A Review of International English Literature) invites submissions
for a Special Issue on the following topics:

Small Cultures: The Literature of Micro-States

Most English-speaking micro-states are former colonies; many are
islands. Authors from these small and emerging cultures often face
great difficulty establishing themselves in an international literary
marketplace. For this special issue of ARIEL, we invite essays on the
literature of such micro-states as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados,
Belize, Cyprus, Dominica, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Guyana, Kiribati, the
Maldive Islands, Malta, the Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia,
Namibia, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, the Solomon
Islands, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. We also invite
essays that develop theoretical approaches appropriate to these
literatures, and short poems by authors from these cultures. Completed
Essays due by 30 August, 2000. For further information, contact
Patricia Srebrnik (srebrnik@ucalgary.ca). For general information
concerning ARIEL, including guidelines for contributors, see our webpage
(http://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/~ariel/).
