Call for Papers--American Literature Association (May 25-28, 2000)
Conference to be held at Long Beach, CA
Abstracts for a proposed ALA 2000 panel are solicited on the subject of
Civil War Literature. The panel will investigate how the war and its effects
upon nineteenth-century American culture were represented in
the writings of the period and will ecompass works of fiction, adventure tales,
accounts of "real" experiences of heroism, diaries, journals, letters, periodical
accounts, poetry, drama, and oratory. Submissions should be limited to 19th century
American literature; papers dealing with literature by women and
African-Americans are especially encouraged.
Please send 250 to 500 words proposals to the following address (e-mail or
snail mail). Submissions should be received by December 10, 1999. Decisions
will be made by mid-January.
