                          The Free Exchange Graduate Conference:

                               ECONOMIES OF MIGRATION

                                  University of Calgary, Canada

                                          March 17-18, 2000

Free Exchange invites participants to speak to a variety of topics which
engage cultural production as problematized by the "economies of
migration" which effect, inflect, and affect our contemporary cultural
scene.

Topics to be considered might include:

-articulations of the local - global dynamic
-conditions of the Diaspora
-the limits of identity / the future of difference
-exile as the forgotten ground in new configurations of migrancy
-questions of the indigene
-the virtual community as lived community
-empowerment as terminology
-cultural capital as nationalism

Although this conference is geared towards literary studies, we welcome
relevant cross-disciplinary contributions from graduate students,
faculty, and independent scholars. Those wishing to present 20 minute
papers or propose topics for panel discussions should send abstracts of
no more than 400 words to:
