Call for Papers
Graduate Student Roundtable Discussion:
"Multi-Ethnic Literature Scholars and the Job Market"
MELUS 2000
New Orleans, Louisiana - March 9-12, 2000

The purpose of this roundtable discussion is to consider employment issues
for the multi-ethnic literature scholar. Though it has been highly
publicized by the MLA that the ratio of applicants to available
tenure-track positions has fallen to 2/1, we must ask how or whether this
affects the student of multi-ethnic literature. In addition, does
ethnicity, gender, and / or class affect the hiring process? For this
roundtable discussion, I invite brief presentations (5-10 minutes) focusing
on issues that pertain to the scholar of multi-ethnic literatures of the
United States and the job market.

Some topics for this roundtable discussion can include, but are not limited to:

Ethnicity and the job market
Non-ethnic scholars and the multi-ethnic job market
Value of degree-granting university
Post-doctoral fellowships
Two-year college opportunities
Liberal Arts Colleges versus Research Universities
Non-academic opportunities

If you are interested in participating in this roundtable discussion,
please send me a CV and a proposal letter describing your probable
contribution to the discussion ASAP. Electronic submissions only.

*Persons who are currently on the job market, who have only recently
(within the last two years) become faculty members, or who have returned to
the job market are encouraged to submit.

Send inquiries and proposals to:
