BROADWAY ON THE RUHR –
THE MUSICAL COMEDY IN THE NEW
MILLENNIUM
International Interdisciplinary Congress and Festival
Dortmund, Germany at the Westfalenhallen Convention Center, June 22-
25, 2000.
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the International
Interdisciplinary Congress and Festival Broadway on the Ruhr: The
Musical Comedy in the New Millennium, the first congress in Germany
devoted to such diverse issues as the production of musical comedies,
aspects of cultural and musical management, performance practice and
last but not least music education.
The Rhine Ruhr area in Germany has become the longest Musical
Comedy Mile in the world over the last years. Broadway on the Ruhr
invites Musical Comedy activities from all over the world to the city of
Dortmund.
Specialists from the areas of literature, theatre and/or Cultural Studies,
musicology, music education, teachers and students of English and
music, experts from the fields of composition, theatre and performance
studies, the theatre, musical management, and town-planning etc. are
invited to join a truly interdisciplinary discourse on current
developments in the musical comedy.
The Congress will be held in association with several national
and international music and theatre societies and cultural
institutions. It will include a substantial amount of practical work
in the field, i.e. workshops, practical presentations as well as
performances of musical comedies.
A number of international specialists have already been invited. Further
proposals for papers/workshops/presentations are welcome and should
be sent immediately together with an abstract of about 250 words and a
short biographical sketch to the Congress Office. The acceptance of the
suggested papers or contributions will be settled by the programme
committee soon afterwards.
The Congress proceedings will be published. The Congress languages
are English and German.
