*Don DeLillo's America.* What constitutes Don DeLillo's America?
Possible topics include DeLillo's representation of nation; his
engagement with national mythologies; the success or failure of DeLillo
as "the writer in opposition"; DeLillo and canonization; the web;
responses to former appropriations of this panel title, from detractors
such as Bruce Bawer, who argues that DeLillo overdoes the "goodbye
American-dream motif" and is "guilty of turning modern Americans into
xerox copies," to promoters such as webmaster Curt Gardner, who reclaims
this title's positive meanings on his website. As this panel is
sponsored by the Don DeLillo Society, accepted panel members must become
members of the Society in order to present. You do not have to be a
member of DDS, however, to submit. E-mail or fax 2-page abstracts by 16
January to Marni Gauthier; gauthier@ucsub.colorado.edu; fax:
720.406.1448.
