CFP: American Literature of the 1960s (3/6; MLA 2000)
Interested in papers for the 2000 MLA that address one or more of the
following questions either directly, in broad disciplinary or canonical
terms, or indirectly, via the discussion of specific authors and texts:
How should the literary 1960s be remembered? What are the decade's
distinctive literary developments and achievements? What is the relation
of these developments/achievements to the larger cultural challenges and
changes of the period? What still needs to be recognized or reframed? The
main objective of the panel will be to foster dialogue about what "American
Literature of the 1960s" is, or should be, while recognizing that the very
articulation of this issue also begs the question of how we might need to
reconsider what we define as the central post-1945 American literary works
and issues as we enter a new century. All perspectives welcomed. Please
submit developed abstract and brief vita by March 6. Paper or email
