2000 MLA CONVENTION - CALL FOR PAPERS

"Symptoms of Theory: Nation, Enjoyment, Critique"

This is a pre-approved special session organized by an MLA division
(Romanian Studies Assoc. of America). The papers on the panel will
attempt to reassess/critique Slavoj Zizek's eclectic model from
crosscultural, theoretically informed perspectives. How effective is
his analysis of ideology, popular culture, and post-Cold War
sociohistorical developments? The session purports to be a forum for
scholars in American, postcolonial, East European, and global studies,
for critics and theorists alike. Comparative approaches encouraged.

Full papers (7.5-8 pp.) or 1-p. proposals by March 15, 2000. E-mail
submissions OK.
