Call for Papers for a Special Session at the 2000 MLA

Mutation and Metamorphosis in Postcolonial Fiction.

This session will examine characters in postcolonial fiction with
indeterminate physical or psychological traits that suggest 'race' or
nationality but seem to conform to neither category of
identity/identification. Papers examining the significance of shape
changing and transformation ( colonialists turned into cartoons or burnt
effigies, immigrants turned into animals etc.) are of particular
interest. What might the political, ethical, or theoretical
implications of these kinds of transmogrifications and indeterminacies be?

500 word abstracts or 10 page papers by March 10.
