CFP: Religion and the Novel (UK) (6/30; 11/11)

From: Mark Knight (jomark@globalnet.co.uk)
Date: Fri Jan 14 2000 - 02:14:59 EST

The Word in the word: tensions and interconnections between religion and
the novel.

A one day conference at the University of Reading
11th November 2000
Keynote speaker: Valentine Cunningham

For some critics the novel is "the one secular genre"; yet there are many
novels which explore religious issues directly or make use of
religious motifs and archetypes. Papers are invited that explore any
aspect of these tensions and interconnections.

The deadline for proposals is Friday 30th June 2000.

Proposals (250 words) should be posted or sent by e-mail (not as an
attachment) to either:

Dr Tom Woodman,
Department of English,
Whiteknights,
University of Reading,
PO Box 218,
Reading RG6 6AA.
t.m.woodman@reading.ac.uk

or Dr Mark Knight,
6 Malden Court,
West Barnes Lane,
