CALL FOR PAPERS

The University of Essex Millennium Conference

FRIENDLY ENEMIES: BLAKE AND THE ENLIGHTENMENT

24-26 August 2000

Not just another Blake conference, but a discussion of enlightenment, romanticism, modernity, and of millennial ideas.

Key speakers are: John Gray (LSE) J.Hillis Miller (University of California, Irvine) Jon Mee (University College, Oxford) Joseph Viscomi (University of North Carolina)

The Albert Sloman Library will stage an exhibition of its impressive facsimiles, and other Blake material; there will be other entertainments. Papers, and performances, are also invited on British poetry and painting related to Blake's art, of his time and our own. Selected papers will be published in a major book.

Papers should be in English and planned for no more than 25 minutes. Please submit abstracts, up to 300 words, by 12 May 2000
