Fourth International English Culture Conference
Theme: CULTURE AND NATION
Dates: November 28 - 29 - 30, 2000
Venue: Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon

Building on the themes and perspectives of the previous conferences, in
which Family and Education, Culture and Identity, and Culture and
Citizenship were explored, the English Culture Studies Group announces the
Fourth International English Culture Conference, with the theme Culture and
Nation.

Our main objective is to (re)examine the complex relations of Culture and
Nation in Modernity and Late Modernity. But we are equally interested in
class, gender and ethinicity as concepts and practices centrally relevant
for our theme.

This year's Conference will combine keynote lectures and several
110min.-sessions. The members of the English Culture Studies Group will
organise the different sessions, and in the next weeks each session
organiser will publish the session sub-theme and its cfp.

Registration fees: PTE 15,000 (Euro 75.0); PTE 10,000 (Euro 50.0) for APEAA
members and graduate students (including coffee, conference dinner and a
musical evening).

More information (sessions, themes, deadlines, payment, etc) soon.
