Call for Papers

PAMLA
Antebellum American Literature
November 10-12, 2000
UCLA
Los Angeles, CA

This is a standing panel at the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language
Association's annual conference. Proposals are currently being accepted
for papers addressing a wide range of issues and themes in American
literature written before the Civil War. Papers addressing the early
national period, as well as conflicts surrounding the construction of an
"American" identity in the first half of the 19th century, are especially
encouraged.

Please send a 2-page proposal, as well as a 50 word abstract, by March 31,
2000, to:

Presenters must be members of PAMLA and may not read more than one paper
