Call for papers

The 2001 SAAS (Spanish Association for American Studies) Conference will be
held in Salamanca, Spain, in Spring, 5,6,7 of April. Within the theme
"Power and Culture in America: forms of interaction and renewal" the
Program Committee invites colleagues to submit proposals for individual
papers, workshops, presentations or full sessions on diverse aspects of
this topic: invention, publication or revision of artistic, visual or
literary forms, life and death of cultural stereotypes, shifts in the
history of reception and reproduction of cultural artifacts, politics of
social and institutional validation of those forms and, in general,
ideological explorations about the making of America.
Proposals for panels will be structured according to the following formats:
three papers and one convenor or two papers and one convenor. Roundtable
discussions and workshops will accept up to three participants, once the
issue to be discussed has been formally proposed to the Organizing
Committee. Proposals for the panel sessions should include a cover sheet
with full name and professional affiliation, short abstracts (250 words
max.)of individual papers and the complete text.
Members of international associations of American Studies are invited to
participate. The deadline for proposals is October,30th, 2000. For
