Call for Papers for a standard session on
Edith Wharton

"Looking Forward: New Directions in Wharton Studies"
10th Annual Central New York Conference on Language and Literature
SUNY Cortland (Cortland, NY)
29 - 31 October 2000

This panel invites new approaches to the study of Edith Wharton's life and
work. Following is a list of topics papers might address:

Wharton's "smaller realisms" (her work in short fiction)

Wharton and race

Wharton and the Jazz Age

Wharton's poetry

Wharton and James

Wharton and the "New England authoresses"

non-canonical Wharton (e.g., _The Touchstone_, _The Reef_, _Twilight Sleep_)

Wharton and the visual arts

Please send a 250-word abstract and brief bio (one paragraph) to the chair
at the following address:
