At the annual Central New York Conference on Language
and Literature at Cortland College this year, the
standard session on the novel has as its special focus
the postmodern novel.
The term "postmodern" itself can be broadly
interpreted (anti-modern; beyond the conceptual
framework of modernity; continuing the projects of
modernity). And perhaps the term "novel" itself is
something that needs to be examined and not the best
designation for the texts that have been labelled
"postmodern." Individual papers may either closely
read a particular text or present a purely theoretical
perspective on the status and work of the novel in
postmodernity, but all papers should indicate the
theoretical framework under which they are operating.
Each participant will have 15-20 minutes for his or
her presentation.
The deadline for submissions is July 15th. Please
