    Call for Papers: GRIEF AND GENDER: 700-1700 essay collection

    SUBMISSION DEADLINE: June 1, 2000

    Abstracts sought for a volume of essays entitled GRIEF AND GENDER: 700-1700.
    This collection will focus on representations of grief from the
    Anglo-Saxon to the early modern period (e.g., from "The Wanderer"
    through Milton). We are particularly interested in the construction of grief
    as it relates to masculinity, the historicity of grief , (how, when, and why
    mourning is permissible), and representations of affect more generally.
    Interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged. Mail or e-mail 1-2 page
    abstracts by June 1, 2000 to Lynne Dickson Bruckner,
    Dept. of English, Chatham College, Pittsburgh, PA 15224;
    dickson@chatham.edu, and/or Jennifer Vaught, Dept. of English, Northern
    Michigan Univ., 1401 Presque Isle Ave., Marquette, MI 49855;
