    standard session on Edith Wharton

    "Looking Forward: New Directions in Wharton Studies"
    10th Annual Central New York Conference on Language and Literature
    SUNY Cortland (Cortland, NY)
    29 - 31 October 2000

    This panel invites new approaches to the study of Edith Wharton's life and
    work. Following is a list of topics papers might address:

    Wharton's short fiction

    Wharton and race

    Wharton and the Jazz Age

    Wharton's poetry

    Wharton and James

    Wharton and the "New England authoresses"

    non-canonical Wharton (e.g., _The Touchstone_, _The Reef_, _Twilight Sleep_)

    Wharton and the visual arts

    Wharton's intertextual connections to American and European authors

    Please send an abstract (250 words) and brief bio (one paragraph) to the chair
    at the following address:
