"_Catcher in the Rye_ at Fifty: 1951-2001"

This call is for essays to be included in what will be the first in a
proposed series of collections on works published in the 1950s. The
proposed series title is "The Fifties at Fifty," and the first book in the
proposed series will be a collection on Salinger's novel, published in
1951. Hopefully, this proposed series will include collections on other
works such as _Invisible Man_, _On the Road_, _Lolita_, _A Good Man is
    Hard to Find_, _Catch-22_, etc.

For the Salinger collection, essays should be 15-25 pp and may fit into
one of three loosely defined categories: Criticism/Interpretation (the
novel in the present), History/'Place' (the novel in the past, relation to
other texts, the canon, etc.), and Pedagogical approaches (the novel in
    the classroom).

    ***Deadlines have been updated:
1-2 page proposals may be sent by July 30; completed essays (hardcopy and
on disk) by November 1st, to the address below. Questions, etc., may be
    directed to Jason Steed, jpsteed@nevada.edu
