----Call for Papers for EAST/WEST: POINTS OF CONTACT
This interdisciplinary scholarly conference will examine intersections between East and West in the arts, literature, religion and culture, with particular attention to manifestations of differences, appropriations, perceptions and transformations.
Papers are invited for presentation at this interdisciplinary conference to be held at Lycoming College, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on March 15-17, 2001. Deadline for receipt of abstracts is December 31, 2000.
The conference opens on Thursday, March 15, with a Gallery Talk and exhibition by Patrick Nagatani, award-winning photographer, educator and author of Nuclear Enchantment. (The exhibit will be open Friday and Saturday for participants who do not arrive until Friday.) The conference will feature a keynote speaker and dinner on Friday, March 16, 2001. Sessions will be held Friday afternoon and Saturday. The conference will end on Saturday evening, March 17, with a talk by Director/Producer Barbara Sonneborn and a screening of her award-winning film, Regret to Inform, about widows on both sides of the Vietnam War.
Registration fee of $30 includes Friday dinner and lunch on Saturday. Accommodations will be available at area hotels.
Williamsport, a small city in north central Pennsylvania, has retained much of its Victorian character. It is located just off Interstate 80, and connected by air to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
