I am in the process of developing a proposal for a collection of critical
essays dealing with the representation of consciousness in all literary
forms. Much of the work in the field deals only with the Moderns and beyond
(stream of consciousness, interior monologue, etc.). My collection proposes
to examine forms of the representation of consciousness from antiquity to the
present day. Scholars in all literary fields, from the Classical to the
Contemporary, are encouraged to submit. The goal is to achieve a balanced
representation of all of the major periods, which will make this text a
useful resource for narrative scholars in all fields. Essays that address
film and other media (advertisements, television, etc.) are also encouraged.
Please submit completed essays or abstracts of up to 500 words by July 15,
2000, to the editor, Tom March, at tmmark@aol.com. If sending anything as a
text attachment, Microsoft Word version 5.0 or higher is preferred, though
not essential.
I hope to make decisions about the book's contents and notify those selected
by the end of August. Completed essays will likely be due in October 2000, by
which point I hope to begin submitting the proposal to publishers.
