CFP: The Brooklyn Film (11/15/20)
Contributions are sought for The Brooklyn Film, a volume of critical essays
to be published by McFarland in 2001. The proposed text will examine the role
of Brooklyn throughout film history, from the Vitagraph studio in the silent
era to Sal Stabile's recent Gravesend. Essayists may examine a particular
film, films, actor, or director that represents the rich "Brooklyn
experience": neighborhoods, characters, events, ethnic groups, sports. The
films can be fictional, historical or documentary. The unpublished
submissions will explore the cinematic (mis)representation of New York's most
celebrated borough from a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives.
Editors John Manbeck (Brooklyn Borough Historian) and Robert Singer (CUNY
film historian) are accepting e-mail abstracts (not to exceed one and a half
pages) until 11/15/2000. If the proposal has been accepted, the essayist will
be invited to submit the completed text (MLA parenthetical style, with
endnotes) by 2/28/2001. The essay must be no longer than 25 pages. Essayists
will be notified if the completed text has been accepted for publication. The
editors will provide relevant publishing/copyright information. All requests
for information may be sent by e-mail to Prof. Singer at
