CFP: Origins of Disability (10/2; collection)

    Contributions are sought for a collection of essays focusing on the
    origins of the notion of disability and its resulting cultural
    configurations. Possible topics may include the developing relationship
    between "ability" and "disability," representations of disability and
    labor or work, the teaching, reading, and writing of disability,
    disability as an emerging construct, disability as collapsing construct,
    Victorian/modern/postmodern images of disability, social
    performance/impersonation and disability, and the relationship between
    "disability," "illness," and "culture." The editor welcomes a diversity
    of theoretical approaches as well as contributions from scholars with a
    more interdisciplinary focus. Contirbutions from graduate students are
    also welcomed.

        Send 300-600 word abstracts by 2 October 2000. Completed papers
    will be due by 15 January 2001. Address submissions or inquiries to
