    CALL FOR PAPERS:

    Textual Intersections in the Nineteenth Century: European Literatures,
    Histories, Arts

    University of Wales, Cardiff, 5-7 July 2001

    University Conference Centre

    Contributions are invited for this 2 day interdisciplinary conference
    which will consider the mediation through text of European visual and
    plastic arts, music, history, and politics in the long nineteenth century
    (1780-1914). Papers will focus primarily on the connections of these other
    domains to literature. The conference takes a pan-European approach and
    welcomes contributions on European =91minority=92 language texts. Areas of
    inquiry will include but are not limited to:

    Decadentism
    Symbolism
    Travel Writing
    Art and/or Music Criticism
    Political Movements and Ideas
    Romanticism
    Representations of History
    Book Illustration
    Image and Text
    Gendered Textual Intersections
    Images of Gender
    Fin(s) de Si=E8cle(s)
    Queer Readings of the 19th Century
    Depictions of Reading, Writing, and/or Painting

    Papers should be 20 minutes in length. Papers will be selected for publication
    as an edited volume. Abstracts of 1 side of A4 (300 words) should reach the
