Call for Papers: Panel on Native American Women Writers at SSAWW

Society for the Study of American Women Writers (SSAWW)
    First International Conference
    San Antonio, TX
    Feb. 14-18, 2001

Proposals are solicited for a panel on Native American women writers for
the inaugural meeting of the Society for the Study of American Women
Writers (SSAWW). I will consider all proposals I receive but am most
interested in papers that consider the challenges (and possibilities) that
Native women offer to conceptions of the literary, of writing, and of
authorship. Papers that consider, for instance, multiply authored or
heavily edited texts, as-told-to or transcribed oral narratives, or works
in non-EuroAmerican or mixed genres, would be particularly appropriate.
Papers that consider lesser-known (or lesser-studied) and/or earlier Native
women writers are also especially welcome.

Send a 250-word abstract and contact information by August 1 to:

    Siobhan Senier
    Box 2160
    New Vineyard, ME 04938

or to senier@maine.edu, with the abstract in the text of the message,
    please (no attachments).

Information on SSAWW (of which conference participants must be members) and
the conference is available at www.unl.edu/legacy/SSAWW1.html.
