    Recreational Images of Presidents

Paper submissions are sought for the area of "Recreational Images of
Presidents." Presidents have used their leisure activities to promote
themselves as "outdoorsmen and sportsmen" in an attempt to
affiliate themselves with the average American. This area invites papers
that investigate how presidents presented themselves via hunting,
fishing, golfing, mountain climbing, etc. The Film and History League
Conference will be held from November 10-12, 2000, at the Westlake
    Hyatt Hotel, Westlake, CA.

Papers might address how the iconography of the presidents portrays
them to the American public. Or, panelists might explore how
presidents use their leisure/recreational activities to promote
environmental issues, animal rights, gun control, and the role of sports
in American society. A broad range of topics and approaches are
encouraged; for example, one might study the various parodies of
Gerald Ford's golfing exploits or the presidents and their pets or
    presidents and fishing or sailing.
