    New Woman Writers

This panel will focus on writings by "New Woman" authors in the U.S.
(1880s-1920s). Particular interests include the intersection of race and
gender in writings by New Women, specifically, the relationship between
women writers of color and the term "New Woman" and its attendant
ideologies (female autonomy, public life for women, etc.); also white New
Woman authors and issues of race. However, all submissions pertaining to
New Women authors in general will be considered. Please send a 1-2 page
abstract, brief c.v., and summer contact information by August 1 to Lisa
Botshon, Humanities Dept., University of Maine at Augusta, Augusta, ME
    04330 or email botshon@maine.edu.
