Biography and Popular Culture Area
The Biography and Popular Culture Area of the PCA invites
submissions for its annual joint meeting with the American Culture Association in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, on April 11-14, 2001. Scholars from various disciplines will meet to share their
Popular Culture interests and research.
The Biography and Popular Culture Area is a new area that was established in the spring of
2000.
This area will examine the connections between biography and popular culture. Papers
regarding any aspect of Popular Culture and Biography are encouraged.
Full panel proposals will also be considered.
Possible paper or panel topics may include and are not limited to the following:
Autobiography
Literary biography
Scandalous biography
Biography in films
Arts and Entertainment Biography Television Show
Political Biography
Psychoanalysis and Biography
Scholarly Biographies
Fact vs. Fiction in Biographies (For example, the controversy over Edmund Morris' Dutch: a
Memoir of Ronald Reagan)
Biography and Entertainment
Controversial Biographies
Prospective presenters should send a one-page abstract by 9/15 to Camille
McCutcheon.
Please note that the PCA/ACA regulations limit participants to one paper presentation.
Therefore, if you are interested in presenting in the Biography and Popular Culture Area, please
do not submit an abstract to another area.
