Update: new deadline
----New Essays on the Stories from _The Magic Barrel_
This call is for essays for a collection on what is arguably Bernard Malamud's most important book: his story collection, _The Magic Barrel_. Ideally, the collection will include an essay (or two) for each story--each essay focusing on that story in particular, though of course some discusson of the other stories, or of Malamud's novels, is acceptable, even necessary.
(There is no contract for the collection yet, but an international press is interested in publishing it.)
Also to be included in the collection is a bibliography of all past criticism/scholarship on these stories.
Proposals of 1-2 pages, indicating (in or under the title) which story from the collection is being addressed, should be sent to the address below (or emailed) by November 1st, 2000.
