A Reconsideration of the Work of Caroline Gordon
I would like to propose a panel on Caroline Gordon for the 2001 American
Literature Association Conference in Boston, with a special (though not
exclusive) emphasis on her short fiction. Particular topics to consider
might include:
=B7 Gordon=92s work (both her fiction and her critical writings) in
relationship to the work of Allen Tate and the other Fugitive Poets
=B7 Gordon in comparison to some of her better known female
contemporaries (Welty, O=92Connor, etc.)
=B7 Gordon=92s revision/endorsement of the trope of the "Southern
woman"
=B7 Gordon=92s vision of the South and/or the Southern nation
=B7 Gordon and theory
=B7 Representations of violence in Gordon=92s works
=B7 Representations of the body in Gordon=92s works
Clearly other topics are possible as well. I would be especially
interested in essays that positioned Gordon=92s works historically, though
all approaches would be welcome.
