    NASSR (North American Society for the Study of Romanticism) Conference
    16-19 August 2001, University of Washington

    Seeking conference paper proposal(s) for special panel on British
    emigration and emigration-oriented travel literature to North America,
    1770-1820.

    This panel focuses on Romantic-period representations of North America and
    'American' national identity articulated by or in response to British
    imperial subjects. We welcome proposals that consider some aspect of
    early American national identity (in its broadest conception) and the
    function of these fantasies within British Romantic culture, as reflected
    in literature, art, politics, and other discourses.

    Interdisciplinary topics and American studies perspectives warmly
    encouraged.

    Please submit 250 word abstract and title by 14 August 2000. Proposals
    and queries may be directed to:
