NASSR (North American Society for the Study of Romanticism) Conference
16-19 August 2001, University of Washington
Seeking conference paper proposal(s) for special panel on British
emigration and emigration-oriented travel literature to North America,
1770-1820.
This panel focuses on Romantic-period representations of North America and
'American' national identity articulated by or in response to British
imperial subjects. We welcome proposals that consider some aspect of
early American national identity (in its broadest conception) and the
function of these fantasies within British Romantic culture, as reflected
in literature, art, politics, and other discourses.
Interdisciplinary topics and American studies perspectives warmly
encouraged.
Please submit 250 word abstract and title by 14 August 2000. Proposals
