CFP __The Searchers__ as Cultural Lens
This panel takes a multidisciplinary look at the John Ford/John
Wayne movie __The Searchers__, looking generally at the question, "How
has/does this film filter American culture?" Taking as a basic
assumption that a culture's stories both reflect and inflect the
culture, questions that might be addressed by this panel include (among
MANY others): What has __The Searchers__ done with/to American culture?
How does the film fit in? Does it fit in? How does the film
demonstrate/obscure/develop/inhibit the "American character"? Does the
film solidify, destabilize or otherwise affect race and gender bias? What is
the function of esthetics in the cultural work of this film?
These sessions will be part of the SW/TX PCA/ACA meeting
