    CALL FOR ABSTRACTS/PROPOSALS

    2001 NAES CONFERENCE
    29th Annual National Conference
    March 29-31, 2001
    New Orleans, Louisiana

    Race, Ethnicity and Pedagogy in the 21st Century

    The National Association for Ethnic Studies invites
    abstracts/proposals for papers, panels, workshops, or media
    productions from scholars, teachers, and students in all disciplines
    and interdisciplinary areas, including the arts, business, education,
    humanities, law, sciences and social sciences.

    The conference will create a lively forum for the discussion of issues
    related to race, ethnicity and pedagogy, including, but not limited
    to, the following: teaching and learning through a multicultural lens;
    high-stakes testing; science and race; tracking; race, ethnicity and
    the scholastic gap; the multiethnic classroom; diversity initiatives
    on college campuses and in K-12 schools; the impact of class rank
    plans on ethnic diversity on campuses; school funding; ethnic studies
    in the general education classroom; assessing ethnic studies and
    diversity courses; university, community, and school relations;
    affirmative action; ethnicity and teacher training; representing the
    historical record: origins, migrations, immigrations; and new
    curriculum models for ethnic studies in the twenty-first century.

    One full page, or 250-word, abstracts/proposals should be submitted by
    October 10, 2000, that relate to any aspect of the theme and must
    indicate the participant's institutional affiliation and mailing
    address, telephone and fax number, and e-mail address. The
    abstract/proposal must indicate whether the presentation is an
    individual paper or a complete panel presentation, and whether
    audio-visual equipment is required. Complete panel proposals must
    include one-page abstracts for each presenter.

    Conference registration fees and NAES membership dues for 2001 are due
    upon acceptance of abstract.

    All program participants, whether presenting or not, must pay
    conference registration.
