Ireland and America: Past, Present and Future

Call for Papers
This major conference on the complex interrelationships between Ireland and
the United States will take place in March 2001 on the campus of Drew
University. All perspectives are welcome: literary, cultural, historical,
etc. We are inviting submissions on any and all relevant topics;
immigration, emigration, The Great Hunger, Irish Republican support in
America, the War for Independence, the Civil War, the Troubles, the Peace
Process, the Celtic Tiger, popular culture, music, theater, etc. We are
particularly interested in papers and panels that explore the possibilities
in the future between these two countries. A conference publication is
planned.
Confirmed keynote speakers include:
Mary Daly, UC Dublin and author of The Famine In Ireland
Christine Kinealy, Univ. of Central Lancashire and author of This Great
Calamity:
Jack Holland, Contributing Editor of the Irish Echo and author of Hope
Against History
Ray O'Halleran, Senior Editor of the Irish Echo and author of The New
Irish Americans
A representative of Sinn Fein
Invited speakers include:
Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan
Rep. Peter King
Sen. George Mitchell
David Trimble
Bertie Ahern
Brid Rogers
Lord Alderdice
Jane Morrice
The conference will close with a concert on March 14, 2001 by 7-time
all-Ireland button accordion champion John Whelan and his Band.
Abstracts of 500 words or less (individual papers or complete panels are
welcome) should be sent before
