(Bree Moot 5, a fan-oriented conference on J.R.R. Tolkien, is scheduled for
April 27-29, 2001, at the University of St. Thomas.)
CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS:
We encourage presentations from many different disciplines. Our goal is to
look at Tolkien from such various perspectives as those of literature,
anthropology, life sciences, philosophy, geography, theology, linguistics,
history, mythology, education, and more.
SCHOLARLY PAPERS should be based mainly on some aspect of J.R.R. Tolkien's
work or life. Sessions will be scheduled for one hour and fifteen minutes
and will typically include two presenters. Therefore, each paper should be
limited to 20-25 minutes with about 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
Longer presentations may be granted an entire session.
PANEL DISCUSSIONS among three to five scholars may focus on a specific topic
related to J.R.R. Tolkien's work, or may provide a variety interdisciplinary
perspectives. Panel discussions will be allotted the full session time.
GUIDELINES FOR PROPOSALS
A proposal should include the following sections:
Title Statement, to include the title of the presentation; the name(s) of
the author(s)/presenter(s); academic or professional affiliation; address,
telephone number and e-mail address; format of the presentation (paper or
panel discussion); and anticipated technological needs (audio-visual).
Proposal Abstract of 500 words or less.
Autobiographical Sketch of no more than 100 words describing your
educational background and current and future research/scholarship plans as
they relate to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This information will be
provided to the facilitator of your session for use in your introduction.
