CALL for ARTISTS' PARTICIPATION in the Religion Literature and the Arts
Conference to be held on 1-4 of Feb 2001 at Sancta Sophia College,
University of Sydney; and related performance venues.
If your work is concerned with any of the following:
- Authenticity, Purity/Corruption
- Ethics, Ecology
- Problems of subjectivity, limits of the body
- Cultural meaning, hybridisation of art
- Esoteric meaning and Symbolism
- The Void/Chaos
- Contemplative or Meditative observation
(just for example) then you may be dealing with fundamentally religious
concepts.
The RLA conferences are conceived of as forums for discussion and
exploration across disciplines. They aim to promote study of the
relationship between religion and the arts and to foster the creative
interaction between artists, writers and scholars. Proceedings have been
published after every conference.
This year we are, keen to get more involvement from artists, especially as
speakers (with slides) in the small group forums.
The 2001 conference theme, Seeking the Centre, can be interpreted broadly.
>From the journeys of explorers to the quest for one's true self, the image
of the centre has been a perennial focus of inspiration and reflection for
artists and philosophers, mystics and psychologists.
Keynote speakers include Roslynn Haynes, author of Seeking the Centre: The
Australian Desert in Literature Art and Film
