    SOUTHWEST SYMPOSIUM 2001
    CALL FOR PAPERS

    12th Annual Southwest Symposium
The Silicon Coyote: Where Past Meets Future in the Southwest

The Southwest Symposium, an interdisciplinary conference sponsored by
graduate students from the University of New Mexico English Department,
invites you to submit an abstract for the April 22-April 24, 2001
    conference.

While our focus will primarily be on the literature of the West, we
encourage participation from any discipline including (but not limited to)
fine arts, anthropology, cultural studies, creative writing, film and
history of the West. We would like to emphasize Western and Southwestern
    topics. Perspectives on Chicano literature,
Native American literature and "New West" studies are welcome.

    Creative works are also welcome.

We welcome individual proposals; however, because of the interdisciplinary
nature of the conference, we will give preference to panel proposals of
    three to four people.

All submissions will be chosen anonymously. Please submit an abstract of no
more than 250 words with a brief cover letter identifying your name,
address, and abstract title. Do not put your name or your university
    affiliation on the abstract.

Please indicate if you would also like to be considered for inclusion in
the Southwest Symposium publication that will be distributed at the
conference. This is a yearly publication that features selected
    submissions of conference participants.

    Deadline: January 18, 2001

    Submit abstracts to:
