    MIDWESTERN CONFERENCE ON FILM, LANGUAGE, & LITERATURE
    MARCH 23-25, 2001

    CALL FOR PAPERS

    Film Speaker: David Bordwell, Professor of Communication Arts since 1973 at
    the University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor Bordwell is an expert in the
    field of Cognitive Film Theory.

    Keynote Speaker: Sandra Gilbert, Professor of English at UC Davis. Dr.
    Gilbert’s presentation is entitled “Window,” a discussion of her new book,
    tentatively titled _Death's Door: Mourning, Modernity, and Poetry_.

    Cyberspeaker: Victor Vitanza, Professor of English at the University of
    Texas at Arlington. Professor Vitanza’s interests include the history and
    theory of rhetoric, rhetoric and computers, and contemporary composition
    theory.

    Abstracts on any topic in film, language & literary
    studies are welcome, including:
    * British and American Literature (any period)
    * Film Studies
    * Ethnic and Cultural Studies
    * Theory
    * Science Fiction/Fantasy
    * Genre Writing
    * Rhetoric and Composition
    * Linguistics
    * Stylistics and Discourse Analysis
    * Gender Studies
    * Popular Culture
    * Creative Writing
    * Cognitive Studies
    * Technical Rhetoric
    * Composition and Computers
    * Cyberstudies

    In addition, MCFLL 2001 welcomes abstracts submitted as potential panels.
    If you and your colleagues share an interest in a topic, please submit it as
    a panel. Please note that these submissions are to be treated as a single
    unit, and all abstracts must be submitted together and clearly marked for
    panel consideration.

    Abstracts Deadline: Postmarked or emailed by January 13, 2001

    Guidelines for abstracts:
    * 1 page (including a title but no author)
    * a cover letter that includes: (1) paper title; (2) your name and address;
    (3) your phone number; (4) e-mail address; and (5) school affiliation
