    Conference on Baseball in Literature and Culture

    Friday, March 30, 2001

    The Department of English requests proposals of no more than two pages for
    papers to be presented at the Conference on Baseball in Literature and
    Culture. Papers are welcome on the ways in which baseball functions
    metaphorically in literature (or film, art, and music) and the ways in which
    it reflects or contributes to American culture historically, sociologically,
    economically, politically, etc. Culture is interpreted loosely to allow for
    a range of proposals on a variety of interests. Not wanted are proposals
    comparing statistics on players and/or teams. Send proposals to Michael
    Spinks, Department of English, Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN,
    47809, by January 15, 2001. Writers will be notified of acceptance by
    February 5. Conference registration will be $40.00, which will include a
    luncheon and continental breakfast. Inquiries may be made to Michael
