    Call for papers

    'Gods, men, and monsters'
    New College, Oxford

    Organised by Michael Burden, Jennifer Thorp, and Wes Williams

    2-4 April 2001
    >
    An interdisciplinary symposium on 17th- and early 18th-century French and
    English drama and opera, and will incorporate the Oxford Annual Dance
    Symposium, 'Gods, men and monsters' will emphasise the monstrous in opera,
    drama, theatre and dance.
    >
    Among the keynote speakers will be the Charpentier scholar John Powell, and
    events will include dance realisations by Airs and Graces, and a performance
    by 'The Band of Instruments' of the music to Corneille's *Andromede* and to
    *Polieucte.*
    >
    Papers on a range of topics - including genres, on myths in opera and
    theatre, choreography, and on theatre music - would be welcomed.
