Call for paper proposals for a joint session of the Canadian Lesbian and Gay
Studies Association and the Canadian Women's Studies Association to be held
at Laval University, May 25-26, 2001.
The organizers request proposals for twenty-minute presentations that
address the relationship between queer theory/GLBT studies and feminist
theory/women's studies. While queer theory owes a considerable debt to
feminist theory, many queer theorists seek to distance themselves from
women's studies and feminism and claim sexuality as their privileged area of
inquiry. How has the divide between feminism and lesbian and gay studies
come about? What are the connections between these fields of study? Are
gender and sexuality separable? What are the (proper?) objects of study in
each field? How do gender studies and/or sexuality studies address these
concerns? How does such a divide affect our methodologies? How do scholars
experience, negotiate, use productively and/ or refuse these divisions in
their own work?
We welcome a variety of theoretical approaches and methodologies.
Please submit 250-word proposals by 5pm *Nov. 30th* to one of the following
