    Call for Papers

    The English Graduate Student Association of Louisiana State University =
    is pleased to announce the 11th Annual Mardi Gras Graduate Conference on =
    Language and Literature (Thursday, February 22 - Friday, February 23, =
    2001), featuring keynote speaker Diane Price Herndl, author of Invalid =
    Women: Figuring Feminine Illness in American Fiction and Culture and =
    co-editor of Feminisms: An Anthology of Literary Theory and Criticism, =
    who will present "Hating the Body, Loving the Body: Narrating Disease =
    and Disability."=20

    Hate. It is the most destructive of all the human emotions. Hate divides =
    humanity and frequently ends in violence, war, death, or grief. The =
    conference theme encourages participants to explore representations, =
    solutions, causes, and effects of hate in language, literature, and =
    other cultural formations. Submissions from all periods, disciplines, =
    and mediums are welcome, including creative works. In keeping with the =
    conference theme, potential areas/methods of investigation may include =
    but are not limited to: Popular Culture, Identity =
    formation/construction, Cultural Studies, Self Hate, Hate Crimes, Gender =
    Studies, Racism, Jingoism, Sexism, New Historicism, Rhetoric of Hate, =
    Multiculturalism, Hate in the Classroom, Marxism, Postcolonialism , =
    Transcending Hate, Canon (re)formation, Rebellion, Cyber Culture, =
    Regional Studies, Nationalism, Hate Speech, Globalization, and =
    Psychoanalysis.

    250 word abstracts and/or proposals for panels must be e-mailed or =
    postmarked by December 15, 2000 and should include: name of presenter, =
    mailing address, e-mail address, phone number (home and/or office), and =
