Call for Papers
An International Conference on Chinese Transnationalism in the Age of
Migration and Immigration

Keynote address by Rey Chow, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of the Humanities,
Brown University
Diaspora subjects, migrant workers, sojourners, transnationals: how do we
theorize overseas ethnic Chinese identities and subjectivities in the
twenty-first century? This conference provides a forum for
interdisciplinary perspectives on shifting cultural formations, the
changing concepts of ethnic allegiance and nationhood and their effect on
Chinese identity. Proposals for 20-minute papers are warmly invited from
any disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspective in relation to Chinese
transnationalism. Those proposals addressing the following themes or
combinations thereof will be especially welcome:
Nostalgia and homeland Resinicization of overseas Chinese
Cultural maintenance in exile Multi-national identities
Postmodern Hong Kong Tradition and cosmopolitanism
Asian American writing
Hollywood and transnational Chineseness
Taiwan and the politics of the region/nation
Intra-regional differences in Southeast Asia
