Southwestern American Literature
The Southwest/Texas Popular and American Culture Associations are again
meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the annual conference March 7-10,
2001. The newly renovated Sheraton "Old Town" Hotel will be the
conference center and headquarters. For reservations, please contact the

have questions about the content and spirit of these meetings.
This area will concentrate on all aspects of Southwestern American
Literature, including individual authors such as Edward Abbey, Rick
Bass, Willa Cather, Cormac McCarthy, Katherine Anne Porter, Larry
McMurtry, Leslie Silko, Terry Tempest Williams, and others. Comparisons
of non-Southwestern writers with Southwestern literature as well as
thematic analyses of several writers are welcome.
Subjects to consider include myth, gender, violence, the Southwest
versus the West, the new versus the old Southwest, nature and the
Southwest, the urban Southwest, the construction of the Southwest in
literature, the visual Southwest, and others.
All proposals must be received by January 10, 2001. I encourage earlier
submissions.
A 200-word abstract should be sent by Jan. 10 by e-mail, fax, or regular
mail.
