    Women in Literature Section
    2001 Midwest Modern Language Association Convention
    November 1-3, 2001
    Sheraton Cleveland City Centre, Cleveland, Ohio

    Organizers of the Women in Literature section of the 2001 M/MLA Convention
    invite scholars working in the field to submit proposals for conference
    papers which address the theme of Women, Writing, and Madness.

    Scholars are encouraged to approach this topic from any angle. Questions to
    consider include: How does recent criticism interrogate the association of
    creativity and insanity? What are some of the issues at the core of this
    association? How have Gilbert and Gubar stood the test of time? How does
    biography come into play? Which authors, genres, historical periods, or
    individual works represent particular challenges to the scholar exploring
    this theme?

    Women in Literature is a recognized, standing section of the M/MLA.

    DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS: March 30, 2001.

    Papers should not exceed 20 minutes in reading time. Please send a 200-word
    proposal to:
