    The Undergraduate Conference
            in the
           Humanities

      Saturday, April 7, 2001
        8:30 AM - 2:00 PM

     Shaw University, Raleigh NC

    Purpose: Undergraduate students and professors will come together for a
    scholarly conference on topics of interest to students in African
    American, Caribbean, African (oral and/or written), American, or English
    literature, history, and the humanities. Students will read papers.
    Especially encouraged are close readings or research-supported re-readings
    of texts. The final paper should be no longer than seven typed,
    double-spaced pages, readable in fifteen minutes. Professors will chair
    the sessions and initiate discussion.

    Requirements: Send an abstract (which will serve as a registration form)
    no more than 250 words in length (typed, double-spaced). Include your
    classification (senior, junior, etc.), institutional affiliation, and
    address (include email). All student readers must register on or before
    Friday, March 23, 2001. The registration fee is $10, which includes
    lunch. Make check or money order payable to Shaw University. If you
    email the abstract (preferred), you may pay the registration fee at the
    conference.
