Update: deadline extended and change in dates of conference

    ----

The 2001 SAAS Conference will be held on April 4th-6th in Salamanca, Spain. Within the theme "Power and Culture in America: forms of interaction and renewal" the Program Committee invites colleagues to submit proposals for individual papers, workshops, presentations or full sessions on diverse aspects of this topic: invention, publication or revision of artistic, visual or literary forms, life and death of cultural stereotypes, shifts in the history of reception and reproduction of cultural artifacts, politics of social and institutional validation of those forms and, in general, ideological explorations about the making of America.

Roundtable discussions and workshops will accept up to three participants, once the issue to be discussed has been formally proposed to the Association. Proposals for the panel sessions should include a cover sheet with full name and professional affiliation, short abstracts (250 words max.) of individual papers and the complete text (30.000 characters max., including notes and bibliography).

Do not send diskettes by mail. You will be asked to hand them in during the Conference at Salamanca.

Members of other nationalassociations of American Studies are invited to participate. The deadline for proposals is December 31st, 2000. Proposals should be sent to the Association Secretary:
