    CALL FOR PAPERS

Volume 5 of European Medieval Drama will be dedicated to papers on
saint plays on the stages of Medieval Europe.

European Medieval Drama, which was born with the annual European
Medieval Drama Conference held at Camerino from 1996-1999, has now
become a fully refereed journal, published by Brepols.

Offers of papers are sought from scholars at all stages of their careers
working through texts, documents and performances on all kinds of
European saint plays: virgins, martyrs and just-in-time miracle workers.

Panels presented at the recent ATHE Conference in Washington and
scheduled for the forthcoming MLA conference in at the end of the year
reveal a high level of interest in theoretical aspects of the stage
representation of martyrdom. European Medieval Drama would like to
extend and move beyond this theoretical approach to the practicalities
of staging, and to consider not only martyrs but also other forms of
    saintly life.

Completed papers will be required by 1 August 2001, and the volume will
    appear late 2001.

Enquiries and offers of papers should be sent to me as editor at the
    address below.

With warmest antipodean greetings for the holiday season, and apologies
    for cross listing,

    Nerida Newbigin
