    CALL FOR PAPERS

    Proposals for a Special Session at MLA 2001 (12/27 – 12/30)

Racing and E-race-ing: Multiraciality in Literature, Film and
    Performance

This panel invites presentations on multiraciality in literature, film
and performance. I seek investigations into the experience of
multiracial identity, transracial families, mixed race relationships,
cross race adoptions, etc. In an era preoccupied with racial
classifications, how do the various experiences of multiraciality
operate within and against these categories? In a world of vociferous
racial politics, how can multiraciality actually diffuse or erase the
efforts of racial communities to mobilize politically for a unified
cause? Alternately, how might multiraciality facilitate the recognition
    and appreciation of difference?
